The January transfer window has been open for over a week and sadly the only business done so far by the Gunners is to lose a striker from their squad as Lukas Podolski has signed for Italian giants Inter Milan on a six-month loan deal.
Arsene Wenger has already stated that it is unlikely to be a busy transfer window. Despite this statement, which was reported on bluesq.com’s news site, the Gunners must sign a forward over the next few weeks if they are to finish in a respectable league position this season.
Alexis Sanchez has been superb since he joined the Emirates from Barcelona in the summer, however, the Chilean has not had much support from the rest of the squad when it comes to goals. Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud are able to chip in when fully fit but their injury records in recent years are not great.
January could be the perfect month to exploit the growing unrest at French champions Paris Saint-Germain. A number of their stars seem unhappy at the club, including Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani. Both players fit the profile when it comes to what Arsenal are looking for.
Cavani may not be available until the summer, however, it does look like Lavezzi will exit Paris this month. The Argentine won’t come cheap as he cost the Ligue 1 club €26.5 million when they purchased him from Napoli. But at 29-years old, he is at his peak of his career and could light up the Premier League in the same way Sanchez has since his arrival.
Players of Lavezzi’s standard don’t often come available in January but the Argentina international is looking for a break. He may see Arsenal as the perfect opportunity to advance his career and develop under Wenger, who has a track record of improving players from the French league.
