Schalke vs Arsenal was last night, 2-2 was the final result and in the end I think I am ok with that. It may leave a sour taste in the mouths of many supporters, the fact that we were 2-0 up at one stage. However had you offered us a point at the start of this week, I think every Gunners fan would have taken it in a heartbeat.
A Quick Summary
It was great to see Santos out of the team. There was definitely a difference in the way we played. And although the Verminator is not on the best form of his life, he was able to jockey attackers, something Santos does not do.
Walcott – give that man what he wants, Arsenal cannot afford to lose him and I am glad he came to the party. Giroud, what can I say about the Frenchman chiselled by the Gods, that miss was shocking, he actually kicked the ground, but thank goodness, Theo was there to finish.
Giroud did get on the score sheet after a sharp cross from Lucas, and finished deliciously. So there you have it, we were 2-0 up. However just before half time we conceded Klaas-Jan Huntelaar drilled his side back into contention on the stroke of half-time to shift the momentum.
Jefferson Farfan then made it 2-2 and I was thinking the worst. But credit to the boys for hanging on, we even had a chance to steal the match in injury time, but Theo couldn’t get it past the keeper, despite my frantic screaming at the TV.
The Problem
We remain second in the group, but we have left ourselves with a lot to do. We are on seven points, one adrift of Schalke, but victory for Olympiakos over Montpellier moves them on to six points. We have yet to travel to Greece which for me has turned into a must win game. Finishing second is very bad news for us as it leaves us very open to the possibility of drawing Barcelona yet again.
For some reason I am feeling strangely upbeat and I feel the Gunners have turned a corner. I am off now to a meeting so sorry if this post seemed rushed, but just needed to write.
