Santos the World's Best Left Back

The Brazilian is hands down the greatest left back Arsenal have ever had. His ability to open up space for wingers and allowing them to get crosses in is amazing. The way he is always covering for his fellow defenders when they charge up the field is a credit to teamwork everywhere. And let's not forget his fitness and speed. He is able to make dazzling runs into the opposition final third and still has the ability to get back before the opposition have the chance to counter.


If you believe all that, then you can throw your Arsenal shirt away, because you have no right to call yourself an Arsenal fan. The only other reason that you could believe these things is that you need glasses...a very thick pair.

Excuse me now while I rant:

I have made it very clear that for me Santos is the worst player in the squad....and yes worse than Djourou……and Squillaci. They at least have some defensive qualities. Santos lacks defensive skills, he cannot tackle, he has poor positioning, his awareness is shocking and he cannot jockey or shadow an opponent. Which basically translates into a worse defender than Squillaci, that is something to worry about.

He committed 5 fouls last night, more than double anyone else in the team. He was guilty of diving into every tackle and allowing opposition attackers to simply slip past him. Vermaelen on countless occasions had to cover for him leaving us open at the back. If you saw the game you will know what I mean. Santos would charge up the wing and then just not get back, either he is just to slow or just not fit enough. Ok I may be going a bit hard on the man, after all everyone in the squad does love him, but I am afraid that just isn't going to cut it. Those of you who fought with me and said he is great going forward and adds value to the attack….ask yourself if he really is that good at that even. Wouldn't you rather have your defenders good at defending…I leave you with that, but for me Santos needs to go.

Santos is not good enough for Arsenal and it makes me upset that the standard in the Arsenal squad is allowed to be this low. I would put Miquel Ignasi in at left back until Gibbs is back and see what the talented man can do.

The only positive about Santos is it's better to have him in your side as opposed to having Downing.

To be fair, Santos is definitely not the only one to blame. Arsenal was poor; maybe even poorer than against Norwich, if that is even possible. But there was no desire and it looked as though half the players were tired and would have rather been on the couch. Ramsey and Gervinho were uninspiring for me, with Vito again looking less than convincing. The loss doesn't come down to one man and the team need to look at themselves as a whole and realise that it’s only the person in the mirror that can make the difference.

I am getting very upset with this whole thing, I do enjoy a good bet and once again lost a few on Arsenal last night. Makes me think maybe I should bet on something else like cricket or Tennis with Youwin tennis odds. One thing's for sure, I am not going to be smiling until Arsenals’ next win….if you need a pick me up just remember who is still injured and hopefully coming back soon
