Yesterday Arsenal played against Malaysia in their opening match of the 2012 Tour. On a pitch that looked like Diaby’s nightmare it took late goals from Thomas Eisfeld and Chuks Aneke to allow the Guns in purple to pull off a 2-1 win. For me those that looked most promising were Bartley, the Ox and as much as I love to find with these players….wait for it
Diaby and Santos, well besides Santos’ finishing which was quite terrible. The Malaysian team went one nil up with a great shot from outside the box, to if I am fair gave Mannone no chance, the outcome of the match didn’t really bother me, but I still wanted the boys to bring to put on a good display. Going in at half time 1-0 down, I didn’t know if good old Arsene ripped them a new one, but the second half saw almost the entire team changed. Nico Yennaris and Ignasi Miquel also impressed me; I find Djourou unreliable and would like Miquel to be given a chance ahead of him. More so what Yennaris showed is that he is better than Jenkinson and should be the second choice at right back to Sagna. The few times that I have seen him play he really has played with a confidence and maturity that a lot of older more experienced players lack.
In the end the gunners were able to save the game, but they did leave it right till the very end. It was good to see a lot of youngsters getting a run and scoring the goals. I did have my heart in my mouth at one time when Diaby was tacked just outside the box and he went down hard. He is known to be made of glass and I think he has had every football injury possible. I saw glimpses of brilliance in him and I think this is why Wenger has so much faith in him. Arsene gets to see him a lot more than we do so he is able to see what he is capable of. Kind of a Rosicky story, we all moaned and moaned, and then look at him this last season.
So I will be keeping a close eye on the rest of the tour and just how the youngsters and Diaby fairs. I hope he does stay fit, because come the start of the EPL we are going to need assets like him.
If you are interested in football betting like I am, then check it out. I have already placed bets on Arsenal to win the league, I have a sneaky feeling this is going to be our year…It could just be the “Keep the Faith” talking, but we shall see.
